RHYS VINEYARDS 2023

Rhys Vineyards was founded in 2004 by Kevin Harvey, a passionate wine collector who frequented the vineyards of Burgundy and became close friends with a number of families behind the top domaines of the Cotes d’Or. When he started dabbling with the idea of planting his own Pinot Noir vines, Harvey was privileged to have access to these friends’ properties – researching the terroir, soil depth, structure, chemistry, hydrology, climate, among other attributes. Harvey then utilized this information to seek out what he thought were the best sites in California, looking for analogies in the vital characteristics that he believed drove the quality of the wine. His research led him to his own backyard – the rugged, rocky terroir of the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Today, Rhys is a benchmark producer of great Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah with seven estate vineyards; six in the Santa Cruz Mountains and one in Anderson Valley, each capable of producing uniquely compelling, distinctive, soil-driven wine.

The New Chile

Chile stretches more than 2,880 miles from north to south, and just 265 miles east to west at its widest point. Chile’s natural boundaries include the Pacific Ocean, the Andes Mountains, and the Atacama Desert.

Vine Connections is a Sausalito, California-based importer of some of the world’s most unique and exciting wines of Chile, Argentina, California, and Japanese sake.

The Scent of Black

Hilly and remote Cahors, tucked away in the corner of Southwest France, has been producing wines made from the Malbec grape for centuries.

The region is also famous for black truffles. The same poor limestone soil that is responsible for such acclaimed wines also produces the tuber melanosporum. It’s not surprising that the inky wines of Cahors and earthy black truffles are often an excellent pairing.

The Wines of LOWER Austria

Niederösterreich is Austria's largest quality-wine-growing area. This designation stands for a big variety of wine styles of international and indigenous grape varieties with Grüner Veltliner covering 44%. There are eight specific wine-growing regions in Niederösterreich, stretching from the Wachau in the west to Carnuntum in the east.

Austrian wines offer the perfect accompaniment to an array of dishes and food styles, watch Wolfgang Puck speak about his native country’s wine and food pairing options.

Williams Selyem

Williams Selyem makes high-end single-vineyard Pinot Noir wines from a variety of sites in and around Sonoma County, California.

Their core philosophy has always been to keep the winemaking simple in order to let the vineyard site speak for itself. True to this goal, Flow Films has produced a series of 14 short films on each of the vineyards from where Williams Selyem sources their fruit.

The Comté Experience

From grilled cheese to cheese puffs, soufflé to fondue, Comté is one of France’s most well-known, popular and most versatile cheeses. To bring greater awareness to culinary professionals and consumers alike, the Comté Cheese Association asked us to create a series of videos for each of the stages of Comté’s production: From a discussion of the cattle’s diet of aromatic plants and herbs, through cheesemaking, aging, tasting and the making of a Comté fondue, and – of course – wine pairings, we’ve got Comté covered.

Cognac — The Art of Blending

Following mixologists Marcos Tello and Kyle Branche, Michelin-starred chef David Féau, and featuring small producers (Cognac Frapin, Cognac Paul Giraud) and large (Martell, Hennessy, Remy Martin), this film takes the viewer through the entire Cognac-making process – from the vineyard, to distillation, barrel-making, aging, and, finally, to blending. Unfortunately, tasting is something you’ll have to do on your own…

Stewards of the Land

A film about the key figures who transformed Sonoma County from green beans and hops to artisanal Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. This is a look at regionality and a return to slow foods and fermentation, with the simple philosophy of eating local food with local wine.

Learn the lay of the land through interviews with some of the top wine critics, how to pair food with some of Russian River’s favorite wines, and a look at the harvest and winemaking techniques at one of Sonoma’s most respected wineries.

FRENCH MALBEC

Malbec Days is a biannual showcase of the wines of Cahors for the wine trade.

Flow Films was commissioned by the UIVC to make a short film in the frigid January winter about the black truffle harvest and the wine of the region. We were invited back to be the official photographers of Malbec Days, the biannual week-long showcase of the region for the wine trade.

Murcia — Soul of a Land

Murcia – a dry, hot region in southeast Spain – is known for its abundant produce and Calasparra rice (used for making paella). But this is only part of the story. Murcia’s culinary traditions reflect the transformative presence of centuries of foreign invaders – Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians, Moors. While the area has practiced wine-making for centuries, its producers are only now coming into their own.
