Murcia: Soul of a Land (Spain)

Flow Films was asked to produce a film to showcase the vinous and culinary traditions of the area, while capturing the extraordinary beauty of the landscape and the sturdy character of Murcia’s people.

Murcia – a dry, hot region in southeast Spain – is known for its abundant produce and Calasparra rice (used for making paella). But this is only part of the story. Murcia’s culinary traditions reflect the transformative presence of centuries of foreign invaders – Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians, Moors. There is Roman influence here, as well; it was the Romans who gave the region wine.

In recent times, Murcia has made a distinct shift from producing bulk juice to making something of greater quality and international appeal. While the area has practiced wine-making for centuries, its producers are only now coming into their own.  Flow Films was asked to produce a film to showcase the vinous and culinary traditions of the area, while capturing the extraordinary beauty of the landscape and the sturdy character of Murcia’s people.
